Reflection on 3rd Webinar
We had our fourth webinar on 18th of October. We reflected on the competence goal 4 that was: "You understand the meaning of assessment and feedback in higher education pedagogy, specifically peer assessment and feedback".
First of all, we all participated in general meeting and discussed few points regarding assessment and feedback. Everyone came with quite meaningful thoughts about assessment and feedback in higher education. Some of those points are:
- It accelerates the performance.
- It increase the power of learning and development.
- It's a way of improvement.
- It determines the new teaching and learning methodologies.
Moreover, our tutors Marjukka and Juha also added useful points about assessment and feedback that:
- Giving feedback is always about respecting others.
- It should be positive and constructive.
- Getting feedback could be harder than receiving.
After having discussion in general meeting, we were then divided into small groups with our peers to discuss about assessment and feedback.
In my group, we were four people me, Jakko, Marion and Mari. Jakko took the start and he really gave a very constructive feedback to all of the peers. The thing that I liked about his feedback that he highlighted almost all the points in giving feedback and making assessments. During his presentation, all of the group members participated and it was like a collective feedback and assessment. I, Marion and Mari also added our feedback and comments.
I would like to say, i was personally quite satisfied and in future I would be able to improve things. I am now more clear about references and citations. It was quite a healthy conversation and peer feedback. None of us was in the disagreement with any point.
After that we again joined general channel where all students from small groups were present. Apparently, everyone of us was happy with this feedback session.
I would like to sum up with a quotation:
"The teacher who assesses his students with providing feedback is like the optician who give the people the suitable glasses to see better and clear" (Fatima Almoemen).
