Competence goals.
- You examine how work based networks integrate into the education and work in your own field?
- You examine the roles of teacher and workplace counsellor in teaching practice or workplace learning?
- You examine teacher's working life networks in education in your own field?
• Collaboration between teacher and workplace tutor.
The collaboration between the teacher and the workplace tutor is of primary importance. Teacher can communicate during the teacher’s workplace visits or through electronic tools. As a workplace tutor, you have to be aware of what is learnt at the educational institute to be able to support the learner in applying this knowledge at the workplace.
When the teacher knows what the learner does and what kinds of work tasks have been arranged, he/she can guide the student towards the qualification and support students in tutoring task. The teacher makes workplace visits and gets acquainted with the student’s work tasks.
What is work-based learning?
• Some enterprises, particularly large ones, have their own training classrooms or workshops, and employees take time away from work to attend training sessions in them. This type of training was very common in many countries of the former Soviet Union. This is not work-based learning. It is simply classroom-based learning that happens to take place in an enterprise rather than in an educational institution.
• Work-based learning that is part of VET. This type of learning is hardly ever stand-alone, but is usually combined with classroom-based learning.
Teachers who actually play key role in student life for making better carrier choices, work-based learning can be a powerful way to develop generic skills such as team-work and problem solving, and basic work habits such as punctuality shows students the relevance of their courses to future jobs, and so makes them more interested in studying; this can be important for increasing participation and outcomes for disadvantaged students.
Additionally, a wide array of educational materials was crafted to enhance the guidance skills of VET teachers and Workplace Trainers. These resources, available in five languages, encompassed engaging content such as videos, quizzes, exercises, and real-life case studies. They were designed to be compatible with both online and blended learning environments.
A key task of guidance and counselling is to support students’ growth and development in a way that enables them to promote their social maturity and capacity to study and to develop knowledge and skills required in life planning.
Furthermore, guidance and counselling connect the institute to society and the working life. Guidance and counselling promote fairness, equity, equality and participation, and prevent exclusion from education and working life.
Familiarisation with different industries, working life and professional fields and practice in job seeking increase the pupils' knowledge of working life. At the same time, students learn about entrepreneurship, industries and professions that they find interesting.
During the highest grades of comprehensive school, periods of work experience should be organised for pupils to help them make educational and career choices. Usually pupils familiarise themselves with working life during periods of work experience lasting one or two weeks. In conjunction with them, it is also possible to organise familiarisation with VET.
The Importance of Networking in Education.
Networking is responsible for at least 70% of the current jobs today. When a teacher is looking to transition out of the classroom, networking should be one of the FIRST action items. I would to share the importance of networking in education and how to start it.
So how does a teacher start networking??
If heading out into the world to meet strangers intimidates you, start online first. in todays world social networking is quite an easy and useful way. We can connect to the people who belong to our field using different platforms like Facebook, twitter, Instagram etc. I always connect to the people who are from my filed of English teaching and arts. I have two of my friends who are teaching in high school and also following different platforms related to career counselling. I also took a three month course of career counselling to have an insight of career counselling.
Similarly, Being part of a learning community can help. Learning communities and professional learning networks (PLNs) can be a catalyst not only for professional growth, but for our personal growth as well.
